Picture Dress

I've been taking more photos of late and wishing for a better camera. Our camera is good for what it is but its still basically a point-and-shoot. I'm remembering that I don't really like to take pictures of people; I'm not good at it and I find it unsatisfying (better to let Starlin' do that). I like to take pictures of things: flowers, trees, animals, scenery. Oh, I also discovered the manual for our camera. It disappeared right after we bought the camera (around our wedding) and I assumed it got thrown out in the chaos. It turns out it fell under the drawer in the filing cabinet. Maybe actually knowing how the camera is supposed to work will help. Anyway there are more pictures here.

I've also been planning a dress for the Arthurian game. I can tell I run to obsessive because I've been dreaming about it and have been unable to go to sleep because I'm thinking about it. Anyway, I hope it turns out well. I'm going to use some plum coloured crepe I have already and find some trim and some other fabric to go with it. Mmmm sewing....

Side note: the spell checker wants to turn "Arthurian" into "earthworms". Strange.

Counting Blessings

Life is good. I know I whine and complain about it a lot but really, its great. This week I got busy and with the help of my favourite Pixie, put up the wallpaper border in my sewing room. The border has a blue, green, white and pink tie-dyed background with pink and yellow gerbera daisies. I love it; its so me and it brightens up the room. I can hardly wait to get sewing. I have visions of garments dancing in my head.

Last night Davyd and I had planned to go for a picnic but it was looking like rain when I got home so I made a hot supper for at home. We watched a movie and went for a walk in the rain. We walked through some parks in the neighbourhood we hadn't explored before and talked about the game the place inspires him to run. It reminded me why I married him and why I love him so much. We fit. Its comfortable and inspiring and good.

This morning I was talking to my mom for over an hour on the phone. We just chatted about what was happening in our lives, the mundane and the exciting. I know I'm lucky that I'm friends with my mom. She is one of the most amazing women I know and has influenced me more than I know.

Pictures

Jeanne helped me set up a Flickr site last night. There are pictures of my corset, the LRPS dance and MayQuest if you want to have a look.

Babes

This weekend was MayQuest and the first Sunfall Quest I played in. I went with a group of 7 other women as models and entourage doing a photo shoot in one of the Towers of Brockmore. Needless to say, it was very silly and I had a lot of fun. Jeanne and I went as Rosie and Guilda (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern), elvish models with barely a brain cell between them. Although the weekend was very draining (I'm even more tired than usual this morning), it was also therapeutic (nothing like getting the endorphins going to make you feel better). I will try and figure out how to post pictures and get mine up soon. Oh, I also won the Best New Roleplayer Award and got a shiny boffer sword.

Spring!

When I was little Spring always meant mud and puddles. There was an old house in our yard that my brothers and I would through mud balls at after we got bored of digging canals to drain the puddles off the driveway. Sometimes the mud would be so deep my rubber boots would get stuck and in an attempt to pull it out we'd pull my foot out and fall over. Then I'd have to pull my boot out by hand and put my muddy foot back in it. I'm surprised Mom let us back in the house after that; my brothers and I would come to the door just mud from head to toe.

I also had a Fisher Price boat that I would take out on the big puddles. There was one huge puddle in the ditch by the driveway and another out in what became the pasture. They had frogs and reeds and were more like ponds that puddles except that they dried up by summer. My boat had a string to pull it around with and I'd spend hours out doing laps in the puddles. I did have to be careful though. Sometimes the water was deep and there are few feelings that bother me more that cold water rushing into my boots (wet socks are still a bane of my existence).

Random-ish
On Sunday I went to the LRPS dance with some girlfriends and had a blast. It was a Victorian Masquerade; the costumes were amazing and the music didn't totally suck. It was great to just go dance, although on Monday I was totally hung over. I wasn't even drinking alcohol, just dancing hard and I guess not drinking enough water. I should know by now that Gatorade is a must after such activities.

The rest of the week has been pretty ho-hum. I've been working early and D's working late so its almost like living by myself, except someone dirties dishes and there's another body in bed when I get up in the morning. I'm really missing D having normal business hours.

I've been thinking for a while that I should document my craft projects on a blog with pictures and descriptions. I've been doing so many projects lately and actually finishing them (I'm nearly finished my Granny Square Afghan). I think it would be neat to have an archive of projects to see what I've done over time.

Allergy season is upon me. I hate May with its runny nose, itchy, watery eyes and fatigue. It really hasn't been as bad so far this year as it is sometimes.
