Drumming Books

I'm not sure if I really mentioned it here before but my parent's bought me a bodhran for Christmas (that's an Irish frame drum). I had asked for one because I have wanted to play for a while and it seemed like as good an opportunity as any. The only problem has been that I don't know how to play an bodhran. Davyd bought me a book for Valentine's day and I've been trying to learn. The only thing is I'm not actually sure my drum is tuned properly (it doesn't sound right) and I'm not sure I'm holding it correctly (the book as excellent illustrations for holding the drum and the stick except for how your hand is supposed to be positioned on the back of the drum (this may also be contributing to the drum sounding funny)). I guess I'm a bit frustrated but (being the researcher that I am) I'm going to look on the 'Net for advise/diagrams. I'll keep you posted.

I also realised today that this week is "Freedom to Read" week. Basically its to make people aware of banned books and censorship. So, read a banned book this week. : ) After all, everything I learned about life I learned from reading banned books.

Sniffles

(Whining to follow. This is your warning.)

I hate having a cold. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'd rather be deathly ill than have a cold. At least when you're deathly ill, people expect you to stay home from work and get better. With a cold, if you stay home, people mock you for being a whimp, "It's only a cold!" they say. UGh!

My nose is sore and my head is congested and my cold medicine is making me feel woozie and light headed. And I can't breathe. BleK!

I just want to go home and go to bed...

Valentines

Even though my Davyd doesn't read this blog, I thought I'd post these lyrics. Its' pretty much how I feel about him...

The Day Will Never Come
Carolyn Arends
O my darling, how I wish that I could guarantee
I will always be the things you want and need from me
But life is funny, honey, we both know that that's a fact
And looking at it honestly I can imagine that
I may get crazy - I might get weak
I will forget to think before I speak
But if you're asking if this love will keep
I will not lie to you - I won't deny the truth

Chorus:The sky could fall on us
The sun could just combust
The earth could turn to dust
And still, whatever may be
When all is said and done
The odds are ten to none
The day will never come
When I don't love you baby
O come what may, the day will never come

O my darling, there are times when I don't recognize
The woman underneath my skin, the man behind your eyes
But love is funny, honey, we both know what it can do
I never fail to catch my breath upon the sight of you
I may get selfish - I might get sad
I will forget sometimes just what I have
But I would have to be completely mad
To ever want to leave - and so you must believe

Chorus:The sky could fall on us
The sun could just combust
The earth could turn to dust
And still, whatever may be
When all is said and done
The odds are ten to none
The day will never come
When I don't love you baby
O come what may, the day will never come

A Haiku to Bubble Wrap
(The ode was too long)

Bubble wrap you're great
Relieving my stress and care
Small pockets of joy

Can you haiku too?

Stitches, Disks, and Aches

Late last week, Davyd and I both managed to completely gibble one arm. He fell at AES during touch drill (his instructor kicked the leg he was standing on) and hurt his wrist. I slipped on the ice and injured my other shoulder (The week before I had slipped on the ice and hurt the right one). Between the two of us, we had a useable set of arms. Isn't togetherness fun! :)

Davyd's dad and his girlfriend were in the city on Friday and took us out to dinner. We went to Gabana (sp?) on Jasper and 112. It was really good. They serve Asian food (not any specific country, just pretty much the continent. A little Indian, Chinese, some Thai). Its a bit pricey and they serve a lot of seafood but I would recommend it to anyone who wasn't going to kiss Raven anytime soon.

It was late(ish) by the time we got home and we didn't feel like going out to the Park (sore arms and snowy roads) so D and I rented movies. We got Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and King Arthur. Sky Captain was really stylised but if you like film noir, it was enjoyable. King Arthur was okay. The plot was a bit disjointed I thought, and if your actually looking for a "King Arthur" movie, keep looking. If you go into it thinking its a fantasy movie about characters you don't know it's not bad.

Sunday I actually started a sewing project in my new sewing room. It makes me happy.
